Why choose a career in sales?
As a sales consultant you are the frontline of contact for both businesses and customers therefore you are in an excellent position to grow your personal brand and find new opportunities.
Sales offers you the following:
- Career prospects: As with most businesses, they rely a lot on their income generated through sales. Therefore a successful salesperson is able to progress in their career even when switching company or even industry. Their skills are relevant in all industries.
- Independence: Working in sales requires targets to be set and achieved each month. The aim is to over-exceed the target. You will have the independence to work towards your goal; it is always your responsibility to show significant performance, and sales independence offers the opportunity to work on your initiative.
- Variety: Many people say how sales is a job that is never boring, there are many job sectors to explore. It is filled with many opportunities to take advantage of. Each day will be slightly different and will always be filled with excitement and change. But, be aware this kind of job can be stressful at times.
- Earning Potential: Jobs in sales mean that the harder you work the more money you will earn. In sales, you do get rewarded for working hard, while in other careers you will often have to do a lot more extra work which includes overtime and at the end you do not get paid extra for that additional work.
What are the sales terms I should know?
Cold Calling vs Warm Calling:Calling customers to generate new business leads, if they are cold called they are not previously known to the business however warm calls are to customers who have previously expressed an interest in your companies offering.
B2B vs B2C: Business to Business (B2B) calls are made when you are calling a business and are generally more professional calls than Business to Customer (B2C) calls which are more conversational as you are calling the public.
Account Management vs Business Development: Business Development involves obtaining new business and account management involves managing and upselling to business accounts that have already been secured.
Field Sales vs Inside Sales: Field sales is a face to face role where you will be expected to attend a meeting or have a face to face conversation. Inside sales roles are office based and you will be using phone or email to converse with your client or customer.

- Confident individuals who enjoy a challenge and are eager to work in a results driven role
- Ability to empathise with customers in order to understand their needs
- Solution based creative individuals who have the ability to think outside the box
- Competitive and independent self-starters who are highly motivated
- Excellent communicators with strong analytical skills
- Outstanding organisational skills and attention to detail
