Are you are one of the majority, stuck in the wrong Sales job or you have moved from job to job throughout your career searching for the right job for YOU? Is it now time for you to put some structure into your career?
According to the SFA (Small Firms Association) approximately 70% of you are unhappy in the job you do. Considering you spend a large amount of your lives working - that`s a pretty frightening statistic.
In addition to this, up to 40% of 3rd Level students are dropping out of college looking for alternative career options. It is most important that you select the right career path for you, preferably before launching yourself whole-heartedly into the rest of your life.
Job fulfilment and satisfaction are crucial for your well being, self esteem, confidence, not to mention your earning capacity. Particularly in the Sales environment.

The workplace is now a very different place to what it was 10 years ago and this has serious implications for your career. The ‘Job for Life’ seems to have disappeared. Developing your own sales career that can withstand the constant change you will encounter is the key issue facing Sales people like you.
You like Sales and you want to stay in Sales, but…if you are not currently enjoying your Sales career?
What do you need to do in order to select the right sales job for you?
“The only people who are successful are people who are enjoying what they are doing”.
Most of us know what we don`t like in a job - but how many of us know exactly what we would like in a job?
How can you possibly find a Sales job you which you like, if you don`t know what it is you want to do? The first step towards finding out is to do some self-analysis.
- What are your sales-related interests and abilities?
- What organisations/products/services match your interests, competencies, and personality?
- Where or what do I study for further education and development.
- How you sell/work best.
- Understand how you adjust to circumstances, people, and demands in your work environment, and whether these adjustments result in you being stressed or satisfied.
- What is your communications and leadership style?
- What are your sales-related values?
- What skills and accomplishments can I transfer?
This information is also extremley useful when preparing your winning CV. Use this as research for the typical interview questions like: What are your strengths/weaknesses? Why do you think you would be suited to this company/job? Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? Etc. Etc.
The most important thing to do with your career is to enjoy it. One of my favourite quotes is from Mark Twain…
“Twenty years from now – you will be more disappointent by the things that you didn’t do – than by the things that you did”
Enjoy!
